The Thatcher Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Chandler Prep Titans at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Thatcher's offense. They came up short against Valley Christian on Tuesday, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.
Thatcher saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Traekon ?TK? Kempton, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chandler Prep). Their pitchers stepped up to hand San Carlos a 33-0 shutout on Wednesday. With that victory, the Titans brought their scoring average up to 7.9 runs per game.
Colman Smith and Derek Tucker were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Smith pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tucker tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Smith went 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Tucker went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Tucker has posted since back in February of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Hong, who went 5-for-6 with seven RBI and four runs. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Keefe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Chandler Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Chandler Prep has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Thatcher, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Thatcher has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chandler Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
