The North Star Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Lighthouse Christian Lions at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. North Star will be looking to extend their current ten-game winning streak.
North Star came out on top against Idaho City on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Wildcats. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Teague Fox was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jace Irwin, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Cole Young was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lighthouse Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top against Glenns Ferry by a score of 16-12 on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their one-run performance the match before.
Like North Star, Lighthouse Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Karsten Sweesy. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up three earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Sweesy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kasdan Kast was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Xander Ramirez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI.
Lighthouse Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenns Ferry only posted an OBP of .417.
North Star's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lighthouse Christian, their record now sits at 6-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. North Star has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Lighthouse Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
