Softball Game Preview: Summer Creek Bulldogs vs. Goose Creek Memorial Patriots

The Summer Creek Bulldogs will square off against the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Summer Creek has five straight victories, Goose Creek Memorial has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Summer Creek's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against King as they made off with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alyssa Flores made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Elaina Bonuelos and Bella Melchor did most of the damage at the plate: Bonuelos went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Melchor got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave Melchor a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Maciel, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Goose Creek Memorial fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against North Shore on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They lost 9-3 to the Mustangs.

Summer Creek pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Goose Creek Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-10.

Summer Creek took their victory against Goose Creek Memorial when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
