Western is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Yorktown 2-0. Give the Panthers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Not much got past Lucy George, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Yorktown off the board. George has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brynley Erb was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Mississinewa waltzed into their game on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Saints with a sharp 9-2 victory. Considering the Indians have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lilah Greer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Amiyaa Parr-Inman, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaci Crick, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Mississinewa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger only managed four hits.
Western's record is now 27-3. As for Mississinewa, their record now sits at 21-4.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Mississinewa struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
