Softball Recap: Wheeling Wins Going Away Against Lake Forest

After losing to Lake Forest the last time they met, Wheeling decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Scouts with a sharp 19-9 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Wheeling got a massive performance out of Alaina Costello, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was Costello's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Caitlyn Fitzgerald, who scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Wheeling was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

The win got Wheeling back to even at 2-2. As for Lake Forest, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeling will venture away from home to challenge Elgin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Forest, they will take on Warren Township at 4:45 p.m. on Friday.
