Basketball Recap: Cartersville Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nas Bennett and Wyatt Thomason

Cartersville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 77-73 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rome Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while the Wolves are ranked 45th).

Wyatt Thomason and Nas Bennett certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Thomason went 6 of 11 en route to 21 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Bennett posted 23 points and seven rebounds. Those three steals gave Thomason a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Bishop, who put up eight points.

Cartersville's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8. As for Rome, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Cartersville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 85-74 defeat against Cedartown on the 7th. As for Rome, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-47 victory against South Paulding on the 7th.
