The Crest Chargers were the 50-36 winner over the South Point Red Raiders when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Crest took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Point on Tuesday. Crest has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Crest lost, one person who can't be blamed is Monica Surratt. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with five steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Surratt posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Zaira Faulkner, who scored three points along with five rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Amya Graham, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds for South Point. Graham is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Maddie Frank was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.
Crest has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for South Point, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crest will take on North Gaston at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. North Gaston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 500th, while Crest is ranked 206th). As for South Point, they will be playing at home against Kings Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kings Mountain is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
