Baseball Recap: Cathedral Now 8-1 over Last Nine Games

Cathedral won the last time they faced Mishawaka Marian and things went their way on Saturday too. The Fighting Irish were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Knights. Considering the Fighting Irish have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Landon Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Bo Cooper was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Royce Ward, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs.

Cathedral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mishawaka Marian only posted a batting average of .167.

Cathedral has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mishawaka Marian, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Cathedral didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-3 victory against Harrison on the 17th. As for Mishawaka Marian, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-3 win against Munster on the 17th.
