With a playoff game on the line, the Canutillo Eagles rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 28-7 margin over Palo Duro. Winning may never get old, but Canutillo sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Canutillo's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rene Huerta, who rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Knox, who rushed for 37 yards and two touchdowns.
Canutillo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 41 points. As for Palo Duro, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.
Canutillo will square off against Emerson at TBD on Friday. Emerson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 games -- so hopefully Canutillo likes a good challenge. Palo Duro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
