Gatlinburg-Pittman hasn't had much luck against Carter recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Highlanders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Green Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Gatlinburg-Pittman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Gatlinburg-Pittman came up short against Oneida and fell 6-2.
Gatlinburg-Pittman got a good showing from Ayden Simington, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time Simington hasn't allowed a single hit over his last five matchups.
At the plate, Gatlinburg-Pittman saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nathan Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Carter got themselves on the board against Gibbs on Wednesday, but Gibbs never followed suit. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Eagles. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Luke Burnette was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Cardwell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Gatlinburg-Pittman's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Carter, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gatlinburg-Pittman has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Carter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
