Summers County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Greater Beckley Christian Crusaders. On the bright side, the six- run effort marked the Bobcats' highest-scoring match to date.
Samantha Cales made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That run was her first of the season. Haley Ratliff was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Greater Beckley Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.
On Greater Beckley Christian's side, Allison Moten and Leah Adkins made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Moten didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Adkins tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Moten got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Adkins got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Peyton Heffernan was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emma Wilkerson, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Coming up, Summers County will square off against Mount View at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Greater Beckley Christian, they will face off against Pocahontas County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
