The Derby Panthers waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Hutchinson by a score of 52-45. Given Derby's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Hutchinson is ranked 102nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Derby to victory were Jaden Wilson and Macayla Askew. Wilson scored 11 points along with five rebounds, while Askew scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kyler Demel, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Derby's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. As for Hutchinson, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-6.
Derby didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 70-32 victory vs. Newton on the 9th. Hutchinson has also already played their next matchup, a 40-23 win against Maize on the 9th.
