The Frost Polar Bears won the last time they faced the Italy Gladiators, and things went their way on Friday too. Frost enjoyed a cozy 54-39 win over Italy. Given Frost's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 408th, while Italy is ranked 1090th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Frost to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brenda Manrriquez, who scored 19 points along with five assists and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Manrriquez has scored at least a third of Frost's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Anderson, who scored nine points along with six assists and six steals.
When it comes to explaining why Italy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Hannah Scott. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and seven blocks. Addy Slovak was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Frost has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season. As for Italy, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-15.
Frost will face off against Itasca at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Italy, they will be playing at home against Hamilton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hamilton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Italy likes a good challenge.
