The Madison Mustangs will take on the Greenfield Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Madison: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Greenfield has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
Things were looking good for Madison after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Scotts Hill by a score of 6-5.

Ryker Stegall was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. He has become a key player for Madison: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least one home run, but 10-11-1 otherwise. Garrett Clark was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Greenfield made easy work of Liberty Tech Magnet on Tuesday and carried off an 18-4 win. Considering the Yellowjackets have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Will Edwards made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Trey Morris looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
Back at the plate, Easton Sullivan was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Baylor Vujicic, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
Greenfield is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Madison, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Madison has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greenfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Madison took their win against Greenfield in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 11-5 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
