Loretto is 1-9 against San Elizario since November of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Loretto Angels will head out on the road to face off against the San Elizario Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Loretto comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Loretto suffered their biggest loss since November 10, 2023 on Friday. They took a serious blow against Riverside, falling 74-23. While losing is never fun, Loretto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1358th, while Riverside is ranked 176th).
Meanwhile, San Elizario was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 33-29 to Clint.
Despite the defeat, San Elizario got a solid performance out of Maya Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 44.8% of San Elizario's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, San Elizario smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clint only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Loretto's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for San Elizario, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-15.
Loretto came up short against San Elizario when the teams last played back in November of 2023, falling 26-19. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds.
