The Riverside-Durham Pirates will square off against the Hillside Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside-Durham is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Riverside-Durham made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Northern Durham, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Grace Arrington made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Arrington was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Riverside-Durham got a massive performance out of Paisley Russell, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Grayson Knotts was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Riverside-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northern Durham only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 19 runs the game before, Hillside was a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They came up short against Jordan, falling 17-2.
Riverside-Durham's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Hillside, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-5.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Riverside-Durham hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Hillside struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverside-Durham took their victory against Hillside when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 18-0 score. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
