If the Franklin County Lions were feeling good off their 58-17 takedown of the Johnson Knights on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Franklin County was the victim of a tough 66-45 loss at the hands of Commerce on Wednesday. Franklin County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Commerce apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Malay Mitchell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Commerce, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Mitchell has scored at least 25% of Commerce's points. Jayla Collins was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals.
Franklin County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Commerce, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Franklin County and Seneca will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Seneca presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Franklin County in their respective states (Seneca is ranked 78th in South Carolina, while Franklin County is ranked 219th in Georgia). As for Commerce, they will head out on the road to face off against Banks County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
