Basketball Recap: Red Mountain Comes Up Short

Red Mountain easily dispatched Skyline last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Red Mountain Mountain Lions fell just short of the Mountain View Toros by a score of 49-46 on Friday. The Mountain Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Toros earlier this season, when they won 55-51.

When it comes to explaining why Red Mountain lost, don't look at Payton Westra. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. Westra is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Macy Johnson, who posted ten points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Red Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Emma Fischbeck continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain View, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. Fischbeck also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Mountain View is 15-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-5 otherwise. Roxy Del Bianco was another key player, putting up nine points.

Red Mountain dropped their record down to 16-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Mountain View, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Mountain will face off against Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Red Mountain is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season. As for Mountain View, they will host Dobson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 57.5 points per game.
