Basketball Recap: Blountstown Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

If Marianna wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Blountstown, they should've done a better job of containing Cyianna Smith. The Blountstown Tigers came out on top against the Marianna Bulldogs by a score of 46-39 on Friday thanks in part to Smith, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 18 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Blountstown's points.

Another player making a difference was Jalynn Copeland, who posted two points in addition to nine assists and five steals. Copeland is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the loss, Marianna saw an underclassman step up: freshman Dessiah Gee went 5 for 11 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Shonda Mathis, who had eight points.

Blountstown's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-3. As for Marianna, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Blountstown didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-14 win against Liberty County on the 3rd. As for Marianna, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 56-13 loss against Rutherford on the 30th.
