The Chesnee Eagles will take on the Gray Collegiate Academy War Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Chesnee had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 21-10 victory over Batesburg-Leesville. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Chesnee was the (much) better team in the second half.
Meanwhile, Gray Collegiate Academy never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed by Pelion at home to the tune of 62-0. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Gray Collegiate Academy's zero-point performance the match before.
Caleb Ford had a dynamite game for Gray Collegiate Academy, rushing for 151 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Gray Collegiate Academy also got help from Jamarious Lockett who showed off his sure hands for 80 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Gray Collegiate Academy's defense and their 6.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Blaine Redmond and Zeb Taylor who racked up 4.5 sacks between them.
Chesnee's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5. As for Gray Collegiate Academy, they have yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 12-3 record.
