The Greenwood Eagles scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They took down Pickens 74-56. Given Greenwood's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Pickens is ranked 262nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Greenwood was led to victory by Nyjaviese Duncan and Jeremiah Brooks. Duncan scored 13 points along with eight assists and three steals, while Brooks scored 23 points. Brooks continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Triston Lewis, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Pickens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Eli Doty. Despite the final result, he scored 28 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Carter Mckenzie was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Pickens struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are 1-4 when they can't control their own glass like that.
Greenwood is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Pickens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
Greenwood's road trip will continue as they head out to face Berea at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for Pickens, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Easley at 7:30 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Easley and three for Pickens.
