I-70 recap Oct. 16, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Paul Lutheran, who took down 108th ranked St. Paul Lutheran, 35-6.
Orrick's Derrick Dennis recorded the longest rushing play in I-70 this season in his game against Wellington-Napoleon last week. Dennis ran for 70 yards on the play and finished with 168 on the day as his team fell to the Tigers.
Ethan Matthews put up the best numbers through the air as Crest Ridge fell to Concordia. He finished with a total of six completions for 54 yards and one touchdown. Matthews' favorite target this week was Noah McCune, who caught two passes for 31 yards.
Jeffery Hall was the best wideout in the league this week as Sweet Springs lost to Lone Jack. Hall tallied seven receptions for 72 yards. Trevor Phillips helped Sweet Springs' passing attack out by catching three balls for 23 yards.
The Greyhounds' Derrick Nelson and Hall have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Nelson has thrown for 637 yards this season, while Hall, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 20 catches for 359 yards. Orrick's Dennis leads the league in rushing yards with 1107.
A big matchup in I-70 this week will be when Sweet Springs takes on Wellington-Napoleon. At the moment, Melvin Baker's team is in seventh, while Quenton Bainbridge's team is in first.
The Fighting Orioles moved up to 184 from 219 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Concordia was able to make the jump by defeating the Cougars 48-22.
