Lumberton and Gray's Creek are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Thursday, Lumberton needed a bit of extra time to put away Purnell Swett. They won by a run and slipped past the Rams 3-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Issac Simmons was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Stueck, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek entered their tilt with Cape Fear on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Colts. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since March 12th.
Gray's Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dalton Williams, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Gray's Creek's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lumberton, their victory bumped their record up to 15-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lumberton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lumberton might still be hurting after the 14-7 defeat they got from Gray's Creek when the teams last played back in April. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
