The Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks will face off against the St. Christopher's Saints at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Miller School of Albemarle comes in on four and St. Christopher's on three.
Miller School of Albemarle is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Walsingham Academy, who was ranked 13th at the time (Miller School of Albemarle was ranked eighth). Miller School of Albemarle's pitcher stepped up to hand Walsingham Academy a 7-0 shutout on Saturday.
Not much got past Chase Cathey, who gave up just a hit to keep Walsingham Academy off the board.
On the hitting side, Miller School of Albemarle let Mandela Browman and Jack Warrington run wild. Browman went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Warrington went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Browman has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Rosales, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Miller School of Albemarle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
While St. Christopher's didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on Saturday.
Miller School of Albemarle pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for St. Christopher's, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Miller School of Albemarle came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Christopher's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will Miller School of Albemarle repeat their success, or does St. Christopher's has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
