The St. Catherine's Saints will face off against the Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Catherine's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They put the hurt on Christchurch School with a sharp 13-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Saints as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Keira Frazier and Jenna Keefer were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Frazier pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Keefer struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. At the plate, Frazier scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Keefer went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Keefer a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Tull, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Day Vetter was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
St. Catherine's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association made easy work of Isle of Wight Academy on Tuesday and carried off an 8-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.
Like St. Catherine's, Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association also got a great game from a pair of two-way players: Sophia Peterson. Throwing, Peterson tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Audrey Haywood didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. At bat, Peterson went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Haywood went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Peterson's first of the season.
In other batting news, Madison Knicely was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Reagan Litchford, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
St. Catherine's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games. As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
