Pine Tree and Spring Hill are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pirates will welcome the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The game will give Pine Tree their first taste of in-conference action this season.
Pine Tree fell victim to Sulphur Springs and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The Pirates have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Pine Tree saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jocelyn Cunningham, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Meanwhile, Spring Hill entered their tilt with Granbury on Saturday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 7-4.
Lila Peters made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Dees, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brylee Duckworth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Spring Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 15 consecutive matchups.
Spring Hill's victory bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Pine Tree, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Pine Tree hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spring Hill struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Pine Tree couldn't quite finish off Spring Hill in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 and fell 13-11. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
