Inland Lakes and Johannesburg-Lewiston are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Tuesday, Inland Lakes got the win against Forest Area by a conclusive 17-1. The Bulldogs have beaten the Warriors the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg-Lewiston strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Ellsworth with a sharp 15-5 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won three matches by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashlynn Burke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Johannesburg-Lewiston let Lily Crane and Laney Wells run wild. Crane went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Wells went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those doubles marked the first that Crane has hit this season. Jaeden Briley was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Johannesburg-Lewiston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Johannesburg-Lewiston's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Inland Lakes, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Inland Lakes suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Johannesburg-Lewiston when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
