On Saturday, the McKinley Tech Trainers faced the KIPP DC Legacy College Prep Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. McKinley Tech was the clear victor by a 68-46 margin over KIPP DC Legacy College Prep. McKinley Tech's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McKinley Tech to victory, but perhaps none more so than Marcus Dunbar, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Alexander Williams was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Steele, who scored 13 points. Steele continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Terron Acker, who scored 11 points.
The win was the fourth in a row for McKinley Tech, bringing their record for this year to 6-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points per game. As for KIPP DC Legacy College Prep, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. McKinley Tech will face off against Cardozo at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardozo is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for KIPP DC Legacy College Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Coolidge on Monday. Coolidge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully KIPP DC Legacy College Prep likes a good challenge.
