The Highland Hawks proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 20) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Gilbert 51-49. The win made it back-to-back wins for Highland.
Leading Highland to victory were Nick Reber and Michael Johnson. Reber scored 11 points, while Johnson scored 15 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Ty Crandall, who scored eight points.
Gilbert lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tillman Huish, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Huish has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jveonte Kidd, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Highland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Gilbert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.
Highland will look to defend their home court on Friday against Queen Creek at 7:00 p.m. Highland is coming into the game with six straight victories at home, meaning Queen Creek will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Gilbert, they will head out on the road to take on Desert Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gilbert focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
