Fort Collins is 9-1 against the Mustangs since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Fort Collins Lambkins will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mountain Range Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fort Collins has three straight wins, the Mustangs have five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Fort Collins has not done well against the SaberCats recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Fort Collins strolled past the SaberCats with points to spare, taking the game 65-50. 65 seems to be a good number for Fort Collins as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Fort Collins' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Alcaraz, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Kramar, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Mountain Range, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-43 loss to the Lightning on Tuesday. Mountain Range has struggled against the Lightning recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Mountain Range had strong showings from Camila Jimenez, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds, and Delilah Lucero, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. It was the first time this season that Jimenez scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daxton Almeida, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Fort Collins pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points per game. As for Mountain Range, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Fort Collins have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mountain Range struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fort Collins strolled past the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 43-25. Does Fort Collins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
