The Seffner Christian Crusaders will be home for the holidays to greet the Riverview Sarasota Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Seffner Christian sitting on eight straight victories and Riverview Sarasota on nine.
Even though Academy of the Holy Names scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, Seffner Christian still came out on top. Seffner Christian enjoyed a cozy 74-59 win over Academy of the Holy Names.
Nicole Carreno continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaslyn Easley, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Riverview Sarasota was able to grind out a solid win over Venice on Wednesday, taking the game 56-45. Given Riverview Sarasota's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Venice is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverview Sarasota's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ava Sims, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds, and Susan Lowther, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sims is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kennedy Guy was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Seffner Christian pushed their record up to 8-0 with that win, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Riverview Sarasota, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.
Friday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Seffner Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Riverview Sarasota, though, as they've been averaging only 35.4 rebounds per game. Given Seffner Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Riverview Sarasota will need to find a way to close that gap.
