The Lake Shore Shorians are taking a road trip to face off against the New Haven Rockets at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Shore will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Lake Shore is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Michigan's top teams: Warren Woods-Tower, who was ranked tenth at the time (Lake Shore was ranked 22nd). The Shorians sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over the Titans on Monday. While the Shorians didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Sophia VanDenstorm made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Izzy Bennett and Piper Lees did most of the damage at the plate: Bennett scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Lees scored a run while going 1-for-2. Makayla Blumenschein also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for New Haven, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Roseville 15-0 on Monday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Rockets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Like Lake Shore, New Haven also got a great game from a two-way player: Jerikah Bowman Class 2026. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Bowman Class 2026 was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, New Haven let Morgan Dunigan Class 2028 and Gabrielle (Gabby) Goetz Class 2025 run wild. Dunigan Class 2028 scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances, while Goetz Class 2025 scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Brynnlee Robert Class 2028, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
New Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Roseville only posted an OBP of .100.
Lake Shore's record now sits at 5-2. As for New Haven, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
New Haven's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Shore hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. It's a different story for New Haven, though, as they've only averaged .219. Will they be able to contain Lake Shore's hitters?
