Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Thomasville Tigers walked away with it. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 33-21 on Friday. Thomasville's win was all the more impressive since Straughn was averaging only 17.08 points allowed on the season.
Decorian Cowan had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 288 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Cowan is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Bryant, who gained 117 total yards and a touchdown.
Straughn's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layne Grantham, who threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
The victory was the third in a row for Thomasville, bringing their record for this year to 10-1. As for Straughn, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.
Thomasville will take on Saint James at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Saint James is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Straughn does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
