One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. A special shoutout goes to Slidell's senior Jacob Guidry, who scored five total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Welcome
The power rankings welcomes a newcomer to the scene as De La Salle earned the 25th spot after its strong showing last week. It had just enough, edging out St. James 21 - 19. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for De La Salle after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
Can't Touch This
Slidell got a 35 - 28 win over St. Paul's last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Jacob Guidry. Guidry tossed the ball for 315 yards and five TDs. That performance landed Guidry among the top power-ranked players for the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
The Picayune offense has been a force to be reckoned with over the past six games; unfortunately, last week Hattiesburg reckoned with Picayune just fine. Picayune lost to Hattiesburg 49 - 35. The defeat came about despite a quality game from senior Jortin Raine, who rushed for 232 yards and one touchdown. The combined 84-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Archbishop Rummel (3rd in the power rankings) and John Curtis Christian (1st). Both teams are rolling into the game after last-week wins. Of course, John Curtis Christian and Archbishop Rummel can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Saturday which team falters and which extends its success.
