Southwest is a perfect 6-0 against Hialeah Gardens since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Southwest Eagles will square off against the Hialeah Gardens Gladiators at 3:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Southwest is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Coral Park 19-2 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won six in a row.
Shantell Valle was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Ami Casteleiro was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-4.
Valle wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Southwest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hialeah Gardens, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They never let Goleman get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Gladiators, who have now won three matches by 15 runs or more so far this season.
Jasmine Uz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Uz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Hialeah Gardens let Delania Aleman and Krystal Martinez run wild. Aleman scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Martinez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Martinez hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Krystina Martinez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
The win got Southwest back to even at 2-2. As for Hialeah Gardens, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Hialeah Gardens' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Southwest has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Hialeah Gardens, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Southwest's sizable advantage in that area, Hialeah Gardens will need to find a way to close that gap.
Southwest took their win against Hialeah Gardens when the teams last played back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 20-2. Does Southwest have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hialeah Gardens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
