Chardon proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Walsh Jesuit Warriors, sneaking past 3-2. Winning may never get old, but the Hilltoppers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Chardon wouldn't go down easily and took Walsh Jesuit into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 15-12.
Ian Galati paced Chardon's offense, picking up 26 kills. Galati got some help from Avery Laux and his 49 assists. Galati also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Jack Kuzma, each putting up three.
Despite the defeat, Walsh Jesuit saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Caden Lamont had five aces and one assist. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for Lamont. Chase Voorhees also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.
Chardon's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Walsh Jesuit, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Chardon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 win against Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on the 5th.
