Softball Recap: Shepherd Picks Up 21st Consecutive Victory

With a playoff win on the line, Shepherd rose to the challenge on Thursday. They never let the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. The Mustangs' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Krista Dunn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Brooke Werth and Breelyn Fulton did most of the damage at the plate: Werth went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Fulton went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Werth has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Charlotte White, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Shepherd's victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 12 runs thus far. As for Thompson Falls, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-13-1.

Shepherd has already played their next game, a 12-1 win against St. Ignatius/Charlo/Arlee on the 22nd. As for Thompson Falls, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-5 loss against Huntley Project on the 23rd.
