Maddie Bose spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lily Riggin, who went 4-for-6 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joy Matteson, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Smithfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary Academy-Bay View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They lost 12-1 to Coventry.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Smithfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Smithfield keep running through batters, or will the Bengals buck the trend?
Smithfield took their victory against St. Mary Academy-Bay View in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sentinels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
