Sharyland has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the McAllen Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sharyland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Sharyland came up short against the Raiders and fell 41-32.
Sharyland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mariajose Campos, who scored eight points along with nine steals and seven rebounds, and Tristianni Cantu who scored nine points. Campos has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mia Bargas, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, McAllen suffered a tough 54-30 defeat at the hands of the Sabercats on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, McAllen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while the Sabercats are ranked 278th).
Sharyland has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-22 record this season. As for McAllen, their loss dropped their record down to 17-17.
Sharyland lost to the Bulldogs on the road by a decisive 45-30 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Sharyland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
