Baseball Game Preview: Pocatello Thunder vs. Bear River Bears

The Pocatello Thunder will face off against the Bear River Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Pocatello beats Bear River with nine runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Thunder came out on top against Madison by a score of 9-6 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunder.

Pocatello got a great performance from HUSTON HIMMERICH as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts HIMMERICH has posted since back in March.

At the plate, PARKER WEINHEIMER was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. QUINN MACRORY was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Bear River had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dragons a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Dallin Rice, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Holden Potter, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Bear River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Malad only posted an OBP of .235.

Pocatello's victory bumped their record up to 8-13. As for Bear River, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Pocatello might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Bear River in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Can the Thunder avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
