The Dundee Vikings will head out to challenge the Glenn Rockets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Dundee has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bedford hit Dundee with a 12-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings lost 18-5 to the Kicking Mules.
Natalie Rath was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Homrich, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glenn). Everything went their way against Wayne Memorial on Wednesday as they made off with a 21-9 victory. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Dani Jackson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with five runs and one RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rylie Sansom was a standout: she went 2-for-6 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matches. Sam Farrell was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Glenn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The win made it two in a row for Glenn and bumps their season record up to 8-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Dundee, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
Glenn's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Dundee has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Glenn, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 strikeouts. Will Dundee keep running through batters, or will the Rockets buck the trend?
Everything went Dundee's way against Glenn in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Dundee made off with an 18-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
