Drury is 1-9 against Wahconah Regional since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Blue Devils will face off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Drury comes in on five and Wahconah Regional on three.
On Wednesday, Drury beat Franklin County Tech 7-3. Those seven runs were actually the fewest the Blue Devils have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Lucas Hamilton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Hamilton was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Julian Faliciano, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Noah Arnold, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Wahconah Regional was able to grind out a solid victory over Southwick Regional on Wednesday, taking the game 8-4.
Like Drury, Wahconah Regional also got a great game from a two-way player: Tyler Dostie. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Dostie has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.
In other batting news, Wahconah Regional let Sam McLaughlin and James Rabuse run wild. McLaughlin scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Rabuse scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. McLaughlin also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Connor Kirchner was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Wahconah Regional pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Drury, their record is now 5-0.
Drury suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Wahconah Regional when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
