The Connersville Spartans will take on the East Central Trojans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games Connersville has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Connersville narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Columbus East 12-10.
Taylynn Selby made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Selby was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Connersville got a big performance out of Maggie Spurlock, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Camryn Fox, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Connersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, East Central waltzed into their contest on Saturday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Lions.
Rose Yunger looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Avery Seal was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Scully, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Connersville's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for East Central, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
