Mount Greylock Regional extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 4-8. They came up short against the South Hadley Tigers, falling 18-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in April.
Mount Greylock Regional saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Creighton, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for South Hadley, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
On South Hadley's side, Matt Butler was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Butler also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Hadley is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-6 otherwise. Butler was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, South Hadley got a massive performance out of Memphis Huertas, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The Tigers are 2-1 when Huertas posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-6 otherwise. Griffin Soderbaum was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Coincidentally, Mount Greylock Regional and South Hadley will both be playing Northampton the next time they take the field. The Mounties will host the Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Tigers will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
