The Purnell Swett Rams will take on the South View Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Purnell Swett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
South View will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Purnell Swett extended their winning streak to three on Monday. Everything went the Rams' way against Seventy-First as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.
Purnell Swett let Grayson Brooks and Camden Hunt run wild. Brooks went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Hunt went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most RBI Brooks has posted since back in March. Johnny Jackson was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Purnell Swett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, South View owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top against Jack Britt by a score of 3-0. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won four in a row.
The result came thanks to David Ramsey's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because South View is 7-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.
At the plate, Logan Read was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Juan Mckoy, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Purnell Swett's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for South View, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Purnell Swett has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Purnell Swett suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to South View in their previous meeting on April 9th. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
