St. Charles will be home for the holidays to greet the Friendly Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
St. Charles entered their tilt with Roosevelt with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. St. Charles snuck past Roosevelt with a 65-61 victory on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given St. Charles' disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 63rd in Maryland, while Roosevelt is ranked 13th in District of Columbia).
St. Charles got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tajir Webster out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was Webster's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Shamir Taylor was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Friendly struggled with assists on Thursday (Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North had 14 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Friendly took a hard 76-58 fall against Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North.
Despite the defeat, Friendly saw an underclassman step up: Bryce Harvey scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Harvey has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Joel Danquah, who scored eight points along with three steals.
St. Charles' win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Friendly, they bumped their record down to 2-1 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: St. Charles have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Friendly, though, as they've been averaging only 4 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
St. Charles came up short against Friendly in their previous meeting back in February of 2015, falling 63-50. Can St. Charles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
