Softball Recap: Rio Linda Wins Going Away Against El Camino

Rio Linda put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the El Camino Eagles. Considering the Knights have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kiera Waggoner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Liv Johnson and Lani Vanderhoof did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Vanderhoof scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nakayla Williams, who scored two runs.

Rio Linda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .455 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Rio Linda's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for El Camino, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Rio Linda has already played their next game, a 9-1 loss against Dixon on the 3rd. As for El Camino, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-0 defeat against Sutter on the 3rd.
