Softball Recap: Augusta Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Augusta barely beat Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Beavers were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Lancers on Friday. Considering the Beavers have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Laney O'Brien was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Augusta got a massive performance out of Cecelia Schroeder, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Schroeder a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rilee Bethke, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Augusta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Augusta's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Augusta will square off against Hurley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran, they will challenge Alma Center Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
