The ThunderRidge Grizzlies had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They took down Heritage 59-40. Given ThunderRidge's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Heritage is ranked 82nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
ThunderRidge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Charlie Spann, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Spann has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tommy Wight, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Heritage's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Thompson, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thompson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jonah Mayoral, who scored eight points.
Heritage struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
ThunderRidge pushed their record up to 15-2 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.2 points per game. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. ThunderRidge will take on Rock Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rock Canyon is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games. As for Heritage, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m.
