Cardinal Gibbons is 8-2 against Enloe since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will look to defend their home court against the Enloe Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Cardinal Gibbons was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 71-67 to Millbrook. The Crusaders haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Defeat or not, Cardinal Gibbons got some senior leadership from Cash McSweeney and Damon Phillips. McSweeney dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards, while Phillips went 7 of 15 on his way to 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Montague, who posted ten points.
Even though they lost, Cardinal Gibbons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millbrook only pulled down six offensive boards.
Meanwhile, Enloe scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Wake. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cardinal Gibbons will need focus on slowing down John Brown, one of several Enloe players who made an impact when they last played. He put up 13 points. Malone Bridgers was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.
Enloe's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Cardinal Gibbons, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cardinal Gibbons has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Enloe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cardinal Gibbons ended up a good deal behind Enloe when the teams last played back in February of 2024, losing 78-61. Can Cardinal Gibbons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
